Designing Your Perfect Home Office

As COVID and the age of social distancing remain firmly in place, many homeowners are looking towards setting up a home office for the long term. Some have even switched over to working from home permanently. Because of this, there’s been a surge in homeowners adding home offices to their home. Interested in adding your own? Here are a few tips to create the perfect home office for you:

Lighting Is Key

If you need to boost your focus, natural sunlight is essential. Sunlight gives you the energy you need to have a productive day and allows you to sleep better at night, so that focus will continue into the next day. It’s no wonder that in home offices, the more natural lighting the better. Find a space with large windows or even a sliding glass patio door. Make sure that your desk is facing the window, or at least is in direct line of the sunlight that streams into the room.

The Right Colors

Colors have been shown to have an impact on your mood and productivity, too. Warm colors like reds, oranges, or deep browns can make the home office feel too cozy, not the best atmosphere for work. On the other hand, if the colors are too start and glaring, it can put you on edge. Blues, greens, and even bright yellows (in moderation) help to make you feel more relaxed while still boosting focus and productivity.

Comfortable Furniture

While feeling cozy in your home office might have a counteractive effect, you do want to feel comfortable enough to be there for most of the day. Make sure that you have a comfortable chair, not only to sit in but one that is proportionate in height to your desk. Your desk should be sturdy and easy to work on. You might invest in a couch for the office, and this should be comfortable, as well. Just make sure it’s not so comfortable that you spend all your time there.

Invest in An Extra Monitor

You might work primarily from your laptop, but an extra monitor will help if you have a job that requires multitasking. This can be a good idea for any number of jobs. It will make it easier to research as you work, easier to code or edit code, and easier to write and edit if your job is in writing. No more switching back and forth between tabs. Now you can have two tabs open to you at once.
