Making the Most of Your Outdoor Space For the End of Summer

Summer isn’t over yet, and neither is your time to enjoy your outdoor space. With warm days and mild nights throughout September, you can throw an end of summer bash on your deck or simply enjoy a night of stargazing from the comfort of your deck. At MBC Remodeling, we offer custom decks using designs that run the gamut from classic to modern. Interested in more ways to get the most of your deck this summer? Here are a few of our favorite ideas:

Built In Bar

Do you love to entertain, or share a drink with your significant other at the end of the day on the deck? You might enjoy enhancing your deck with a built in bar. A bar built into the railing made from the same decking material has a subtle design, but offers the perfect setting to enjoy a nightcap. If your deck is circular, the bar can run along the whole railing, with stools underneath for larger parties, or it can simply take up a small portion. Pour yourself a drink on the night of September 22 and sit outside as the last day of summer turns into midnight on the first day of fall.

A Little Shade

Even in September, the sun can be quite intense, and you might enjoy adding a little shade to your deck for some reprieve. If you don’t want the full coverage of an awning, a pergola could be an excellent compromise. Pergolas offer filtered shade while still allowing sunlight in, and have an elegant look that’s full of potential. If you have a green thumb, you might cover your pergola in climbing plants to add a wild, natural look to your deck.

Perception of Space

Are you trying to make the most of a smaller deck? You can trick the eye into seeing the deck as larger than it is through clever use of color. Paint that matches the exterior of the home will blend the view of the deck with that of the home, making the deck itself seem more spacious. Try not to fill small decks up with deck furniture. Keep pieces to the side or have a small table with a couple chairs in the center, leaving space to move around in between. Not only is this practical for comfort reasons, it will also help your deck to see a little larger.

It all starts, of course, with having the right deck, and it’s not too late to have yours installed. Contact MBC Remodeling today for more information or a free consultation.
